An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person to be a Director of Finance / Deputy Managing Director at this Waste and Environmental Operations in Blackpool. You will report to the Managing Director and be accountable to the company Board, also having a professional link to the Chief Finance Officer.
About the company
Our client is a wholly owned company of the local Council, providing Environmental Operations which include Waste collection, Street cleaning, grounds and Park maintenance. The Council are the sole shareholder and retain significant control over the strategic direction of the company and our client delivers services with greater flexibility and levels of innovation utilising the skills and expertise of its staff and Board of Directors.
About the role
As Director of Finance / Deputy Managing Director, you will:- Provide leadership and strategic direction to the company as the lead for financial analysis, corporate compliance and governance
- Deputise for the Managing Director and take an active role in a wide range of business development projects
- Oversee the support services functions for the company from a mix of internal staff teams and contracted services
- Report to the company Board and ensure that Board directors are kept up to date with strategic developments, financial performance and key updates
- Prepare and present updates and reports on financial activities and new initiatives for the Executive Team, Board and Committee
- Lead role in developing a marketing and communication plan for the company
- Develop, direct and monitor the implementation of policies, procedures and work standards to ensure standards and KPIs are achieved
- Provide strategic oversight of all financial and accounting procedures and ensure that these produce accurate results, meet deadlines and comply with Shareholder requirements
- Develop and maintain a performance management framework in conjunction with the Managing Director and company Board to ensure that the financial function and the team operate at the highest level
- Lead the financial teams for the company, supporting them to achieve objectives and targets, ensuring effective collaboration across the organisation to achieve the aims and objectives of the businesses and to maximise revenue
- Ensure that any findings and recommendations from audit reports are acted on in a timely manner
About you
To be successful for the role of Director of Finance / Deputy Managing Director, you must be/will have:- CCAB qualified
- Degree in Business Management/Leadership
- Previously worked in a similar frontline service
- Substantial leadership experience at a senior level
- Substantial experience in financial management at a strategic level
- Experience in business planning, performance management, and managing budgets and can demonstrate adherence to relevant regulations (e.g. public sector procurement regulations)
Essential skills
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills
- Excellent customer management skills in building relationships and presentations to senior and strategic leaders/customers
- Experienced senior manager skilled in managing and motivating financial teams
- Excellent communication, reasoning, negotiation and influencing skills, both oral and written
- Ability to analyse and solve complex problems creatively and pragmatically and the ability to use initiative
- Exceptional project direction and management skills, ability to manage multiple timelines, deadlines and actions in a collaborative fast paced environment
- IT skills including use of digital and social media, Word, excel, PowerPoint
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP with eRequest or SAGE and Nolan Business Solutions is desirable.
About the rewards
For the role of Director of Finance / Deputy Managing Director, there is a salary on offer of £75,000 to £90,000 per annum, depending on experience. Along with 26 days annual leave, plus statutory Bank Holidays, and postholders are eligible for the Peoples Pension scheme.
