We have an excellent opportunity for a part-time Administration Assistant to join one of the largest and oldest Friendly Societies in the UK, working alongside and supporting the District Secretary at their the Bury St Edmunds & Colchester Branch.

About the hours and salary
The role is based at within the offices, but with an opportunity also to work from home when appropriate and agreed. The salary is £12.50 per hour and the average working week is 15 hrs based on 5 hrs per day. Evening and weekend working should not be required, but if necessary, additional pay would be agreed beforehand.

About the role
As part time Administration Assistant you will help and support the District Secretary to provide an effective administration hub which supports the four social lodges, with some 1100 members, in Suffolk and North Essex.  Reporting to the District Secretary you will:

  • Use the in-house computer system to support membership enquiries renewals and payment of member benefits and grants
  • Prepare and record cheques, credit card and BACS payments for signature
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail
  • Prepare and maintain the booking system and invoices for the Hall lettings
  • Take and record payments from members and other
  • Undertake general office administration as well as any other reasonable work as directed
  • In the absence of the District Secretary assume responsibility for the office and building security

The successful applicant will have, or be prepared to develop, a working knowledge of the Friendly Society Rules and Procedures.  Training will be provided as necessary related and this could be in person or by Zoom.  Benefit membership of the organisation would be available at no cost.

About you
To be successful for the role of Administration Assistant, you will have / be:

  • Computer literate and prepared to learn the in-house system.
  • Willing to undertake tasks diligently and carefully, showing accuracy in detail
  • Able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively
  • Exhibit confidence and patience
  • Able to manage your time effectively
