We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Therapist for Children & Young People where you will join a leading CQC registered provider of Community Health Services in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. About the company
Our client and the Nottinghamshire CCG are working together to deliver an Emotional Wellbeing Early Support Service for Children and Young People. This transformative service will play a central role in system change, bringing previously separate services into one service, supporting children and young people to experience good mental health and emotional wellbeing by providing timely, integrated, high quality and accessible multi-disciplinary support that is accessible and flexible based on individual need.
About the role
As a Senior Therapist for Children & Young People, you will deliver person centred outcome focused evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties to support them to improve their emotional health and build resilience. This will include individual and group work and you will be assisting with the running of the single point of access and providing guided self-help, 1-1 counselling, group sessions and facilitating peer support.
Responsibilities
In the role of Senior Therapist, you will be utilising analytical skills, specialist knowledge and experience provide a comprehensive assessment and formulation of the presenting problem taking into account the child’s educational attainment, chronological/ developmental stage, inner world / emotional wellbeing, the mental health & Wellbeing of the child’s parents/carers, the family dynamics and environment, and the broader social context including school. Key accountabilities will be to:- Develop a planned short-term intervention utilising behavioural, cognitive, psychodynamic and systemic perspectives as indicated by the formulation, the needs of the client and the evidence base
- Deliver one-off or short-term therapeutic interventions to children and young people, working independently which may at times mean lone working
- Develop alternatives to one-to-one therapeutic work i.e., group work, play therapy
- Facilitate peer support with and for children and young people
- Provide information, advice, guidance, and support as part of the single point of access function
- Maintain confidential case notes and records in a timely manner ensuring that these are stored securely using the specified case management systems
- Develop links to other agencies and services and have a good understanding of local services for signposting and onward referrals
- Positively manage risk and recognise and pro-actively respond to child protection and safeguarding issues
- Able to communicate and engage with children and young people appropriate to individual needs
- Ensure young people feel listened to, feel in control and are respected
Essential Qualifications
- Professional registration with recognised National Body (HCPC, NMC, BACP, BABCP BASW, TRA), Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT qualification) or other therapy qualifications
- Confident in supporting / offering interventions to children and young people presenting mild to moderate risk behaviours
- A good working knowledge of principles underlying psychodynamic, systemic, cognitive and behavioural therapies
- Knowledge of development in CYP, family development and of transitions
- Minimum of 2-years’ experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Ability to recognise and respond to concerns about child protection and safeguarding
About you
To be successful in the role of Senior Therapist for Children & Young People you must have / be:- An experienced and qualified mental health practitioner used to a fast-paced environment and supporting a team of counsellors
- Experienced in working with children and young people across early intervention / mental
health settings and experienced in engaging the whole family
- Confident in supporting / offering interventions to children and young people presenting mild to moderate risk behaviours
- Able to build strong therapeutic relationships in a short period of time
- Open, respectful, committed to equality and inclusiveness and motivated by new ideas and perspectives
- Must be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check
About the rewards
For the role of Senior Therapist for Children & Young People there is a competitive salary on offer of £28,000 - £32,000 per annum pro rata, depending on qualifications and experience.
